Port logistics and shipping

Diamond micron powder is a valuable and relatively light cargo, making air freight the most economical and fast shipping method to Russia. In this article we describe the entire logistics process — from packaging at our warehouse in Zhecheng to door-to-door delivery at your production facility in Russia.

Shipping methods

Air freight door-to-door (recommended)

Main method for 0.5-50kg batches. Includes pickup from our warehouse, export customs in China, air freight, import customs in Russia and delivery to consignee address. Time: 7-14 working days. Cost: $25-45 per kg depending on weight and region. For samples up to 200g, cost is significantly lower.

Express delivery (DHL/FedEx/UPS)

For urgent orders, express delivery by international operators is available. Time: 3-7 working days. Cost is higher than air freight door-to-door, especially for batches from 5kg. Important: with express delivery, the consignee handles customs clearance in Russia independently.

Packaging

Each batch is packed in sealed plastic containers with desiccant, then in vacuum bag and transport box with cushioning filler. Package indicates: batch number, grain size, net/gross weight, manufacturing date, country of origin. For batches from 1kg, GOST packaging with quality certificate is provided. 5-carat samples are packed in small sealed containers.

Customs clearance

With door-to-door delivery, we handle all customs procedures: export declaration in China and import in Russia. Diamond micron powder is classified under HS code 7105.10.000 (natural or synthetic diamond powders and dust). Import duty to Russia is 0% (free regime), VAT — 20% of customs value. All customs clearance costs are already included in door-to-door delivery price.

Insurance and Risks

Diamond micron powder is a valuable but compact, non-perishable cargo, so the main risks are loss or delay rather than spoilage. We pack every batch in moisture-proof sealed containers and fix it inside a rigid box to prevent spillage and contamination during transshipment. On request a batch is insured for its full declared value; insurance is billed separately and only pays off for genuinely valuable shipments, which we point out rather than pushing it onto every order. Separately, plan for timing: peak periods (year end, holidays on both sides of the border) can add 3–5 working days to the standard lead time, so stock-replenishment orders should be placed with buffer.

We do not ship samples: a small parcel goes by air only, and its shipping cost is comparable to the value of the sample itself. The first step is a trial batch from 1 kg.

Russia delivery lead times

  • Air (door-to-door): 7–14 days, from $25/kg.
  • Road/Rail: 25–40 days, from $8/kg.
  • Customs: full document package including invoice and packing list.

What We Need from the Consignee

To clear import customs without delay, before dispatch we ask the consignee for a minimal set: full legal entity name and its details, tax ID, a contact person with phone and the exact delivery address. These go onto the invoice and accompanying documents, and a mismatch with the consignee registry is the most common cause of border holdups. We also ask in advance who acts as declarant: under door-to-door our forwarder handles it, while express requires the consignee to do so, and this decides which set of forms we prepare.

Road and rail routes via land border crossings take 25–40 days and are markedly cheaper per kilo than air, which makes sense for planned stock replenishment when speed is not critical. They also suit a batch consolidated with other orders if you can wait. We calculate in advance whether such a route fits your schedule and do not offer it automatically just for a low rate figure.

Why Sea Freight Is Rarely Used

At first glance sea freight from China to Saint Petersburg looks cheaper than air, but this logic does not hold for diamond micron powder. The cargo is very light: given its high value, its weight is so small that any saving on the per-kilo sea rate is eaten by two factors — the long voyage and the need to consolidate in a container. Two weeks of sailing plus a week of clearance erase the price advantage, and the risk of mix-ups in consolidated cargo is higher. So for batches of tens of kilos, sea freight is only rational as part of a large consolidated order that travels anyway. For most of our customers, door-to-door air remains the best balance of speed and cost.

Shipping FAQ

Can I track the shipment?

Yes, after dispatch we share the tracking number and intermediate milestones: departure from China, arrival in Russia, customs clearance and local delivery. With door-to-door you handle no customs yourself but see the batch all the way to your warehouse.

What if a batch is delayed?

We report a delay as soon as it is known and propose a plan: expediting the next shipment from stock, or partial sending of the fast-moving W5/W10/W20 fraction we always hold. For large repeat orders we keep a small safety buffer so a route gap does not stop your production.

How is a trial batch packed?

A trial batch goes in sealed containers with desiccant, then a rigid box, with a passport listing fraction and grade. Logistics are covered by the goods value; delivery of 1 kg.

In short, for diamond micron powder to Russia we recommend door-to-door air as the balanced option, keeping express for urgent samples and road/rail for planned large batches. Start with a trial batch from 1 kg: you see both packaging quality and customs speed on a small, low-cost shipment before setting up regular orders.
