Product packaging and warehousing

Diamond micron powder is a high-value, yet very light cargo: a kilogram costs thousands of yuan and occupies less than a liter. Therefore packaging and shipping method directly affect cargo safety, lead times and the final landed cost for the customer. This article explains in detail how DIAMTECH packages and ships micron powder from Henan province to Russia.

Packaging Standard: Three Layers of Protection

Micron Powder is hygroscopic and sensitive to oxidation, so we use a three-layer packaging system that guarantees product integrity regardless of shipping method.

Diamond micron powder packaging: vacuum bags, drums, pallets

Fig. 1 — Three-layer packaging: vacuum bag → fiber drum → pallet

Layer 1: Inner Packaging

  • Aluminum foil vacuum bag (1kg / 5kg) — completely blocks moisture and oxygen
  • Each bag labeled: batch number, grain size, net weight, production date, in-house QC report number
  • COA particle size report enclosed inside

Layer 2: Outer Container

  • 25kg industrial fiber drum with polyethylene liner
  • Metal-lock lid — tamper protection in transit
  • Marked: "Fragile", "Keep dry", this-side-up arrows

Layer 3: Palletization

  • Standard export pallet (1200×800mm), up to 4 drums per pallet
  • Stretch wrap + PP strapping — load doesn't shift
  • Total pallet weight ~110kg, easy for handling
"We never skimp on packaging. Replacing damp or oxidized micron powder costs more than ten packaging sets."

Three Shipping Methods: How to Choose

The shipping method depends on urgency, batch volume and budget. Below is a comparison of all three options we use for deliveries to Russia.

Shipping methods comparison: air, rail, road

Fig. 2 — Lead time and cost comparison of three shipping methods

Method Time to Moscow Cost Best for
Air 5-7 days high trial and urgent small batches
Road 15-20 days medium small-medium batches 1-50kg
Rail 20-30 days low large batches 100kg+

Air Freight: Fast but Expensive

Air freight is the optimal choice for samples and first test batches. Delivery to Moscow takes 5-7 days, to major cities (Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk) — 7-10 days. We work with verified forwarders specializing in industrial cargo from China to Russia.

Road Freight: The Middle Ground

Road freight via border crossings (Zabaikalsk, Suifenhe, Manzhouli) is the optimal option for 1-50kg batches. 15-20 days, cost 2-3x lower than air. Suitable for regular small-wholesale deliveries.

Rail: For Large Batches

Container rail freight via China-Europe routes (via Kazakhstan or Mongolia) is the most economical method for 100kg+ batches. 20-30 days, minimum cost. Ideal for steady large orders after quality verification.

Trial Batch vs Bulk: Different Rules

Many customers start with samples, and sample logistics differs from bulk shipments.

1 kg
minimum trial batch
7-10
days batch delivery
1 kg
minimum batch order
COA
in-house QC report with every batch

Trial batch (from 1 kg)

  • Fixed quantity — 5 carats, enough for lab testing
  • Air parcel delivery, 7-10 days door-to-door
  • Trial batch — from 1 kg: the goods value covers the logistics. A QC report is attached to the batch.

Batch (from 1kg = 5000 carats)

  • MOQ — 1kg, below this logistics makes it uneconomical
  • Shipping method by agreement: air / road / rail
  • Each batch ships with in-house QC report and full export documentation; official protocol from a CN state laboratory — on request.

Customs & Compliance: What You Need to Know

Diamond micron powder (HS 71051020) is classified as a dual-use item (code 2C902.a). This imposes certain export requirements but does not make export impossible.

Export Documents

  • Commercial invoice — description, quantity, value, Incoterms
  • Packing list — gross/net weight, piece count, dimensions
  • In-house QC report (particle size) — D50, D90, impurities, magnetic content
  • Export contract — payment terms, lead times, liabilities
⚠️ Important: We strongly advise against "double customs clearance" and under-declaring value. For dual-use items this can lead to cargo confiscation and legal consequences. We always declare the real description and value.

Licensing

As of September 2026, export of diamond micron powder from China does not require a separate license until November 2026. After that date requirements may change — we monitor updates and inform customers in advance. For each deal we verify current requirements before shipping.

Insurance & Tracking

Diamond micron powder is high-value cargo, so we recommend insuring every batch at full value. Insurance cost is ~0.3% of declared cargo value.

  • Tracking number provided immediately after handover to forwarder
  • Online tracking on carrier website at all stages
  • Photo report of packaging and loading — on customer request

FAQ

Q: Does a trial batch need customs declaration?
A: Yes. A trial batch goes as a normal export and requires full customs declaration with real description and value.
Q: Can you ship via "double customs clearance"?
A: No. For dual-use items this is strongly discouraged — risk of confiscation and legal consequences is too high. We only work via white-scheme with full declaration.
Q: Can the powder get damp in transit?
A: No. Three-layer packaging (vacuum bag + lined drum + wrapped pallet) completely blocks moisture under normal transport conditions. In 5 years of operation we have never had a dampness incident.
Q: Can packaging be customized to my requirements?
A: Yes. We can change bag size, labeling, label language and even use your branded packaging for orders from 50kg. Discuss details with our manager in VK.

Conclusion

Packaging and logistics are not secondary details — they are part of the product. Proper packaging ensures the micron powder retains its properties until the customer receives it, and shipping method choice affects final landed cost and production ramp-up speed. We tailor packaging and logistics to every order — from sample to container batch.

Payment Terms

We work with standard international trade payment terms.

  • Bank transfer (T/T) — the primary payment method.
  • Letter of credit (L/C) — for large batches and regular customers.

Standard terms: 30% deposit, 70% before shipment. The first large-volume order requires qualification review and customs clearance procedures — lead time is relatively long. From the second order onward, we switch to continuous stock supply mode, delivery times are significantly shortened. Bank details are provided upon request after order confirmation.

Practical tip

For a first purchase we recommend a trial batch from 1 kg: test the fraction on your equipment before a bulk order. Every trial batch comes with a report (particle size, Fe+Ni+Co). Standard W5/W10/W20 fractions are always in stock — ships within 48 hours.

How to Accept a Batch at the Customer's Warehouse

On receipt, check three things. First, outer container integrity: the fiber drum must not be dented or opened, and the lid lock must be in place. Second, label consistency: the batch number on the vacuum bag must match the invoice and the QC report. Third, open the bag in a dry room and reseal the remainder immediately after sampling. Re-exposure to air is harmless in a dry climate but undesirable at high humidity. If anything does not match, photograph it before signing the acceptance certificate — this simplifies resolving any dispute with the insurer or carrier.
