Diamond as a functional filler
filament, compounds, printed tooling

Wear resistance, thermal conductivity, mechanics — via the filler

Where it is not the shape but the material itself that is printed, diamond changes role: from abrasive to a component of the formulation. This field is developing — some requests are already serial filament consumables, others are research, where we contribute trial quantities and powder data.

CP3 · Filler for filament and polymer compounds

Diamond and nanodiamond powders are introduced into a polymer matrix to change the properties of the printing material itself. Industry interest concentrates on three effects:

  • Wear resistance — the filler improves the abrasion resistance of the part surface; relevant for guides, inserts, contact pairs.
  • Thermal conductivity — diamond has high thermal conductivity, which helps dissipate heat from working parts; this is actively researched for electronics and thermal applications.
  • Mechanics and dimensional stability — a controlled filler dosage affects stiffness and shrinkage of the printed part.

What we supply for this direction

  • Micron powders and ultrafine fractions for polymer filling; nanosize lots by agreement for a specific formulation.
  • Powder with particle-size and purity data, so it can be written into your process specification instead of being trialled blind.
  • Trial quantities for the laboratory, scaled up as the formulation is confirmed.

Let us be straightforward: this is a developing direction, not a ready catalogue. Filler effect depends on the matrix, dosage and printing regime, so we propose to start from your formulation and validate on a trial lot.

CP4 · Additively made diamond tooling

The mirror image of CP1: here diamond is not what does the machining, but what is printed with. This covers grinding heads with complex profiles, abrasive structures with defined porosity, and tool shapes impossible to obtain by pressing.

We do not claim our own diamond printing technology. Our role here is supplying reproducible diamond powder to those developing such technology, and discussing fraction and grain-shape requirements for their process.
